What do you mean by NBHM in honey bee?
Gov. of India has approved a new Central Sector yojana entitled NBHM for 2 years for overall development and promotion of scientific beekeeping in mission mode to attain the aim of “Sweet Revolution” in the nation by providing thrust on capacity building & training, specific focus women, Digitization /online registration, set up of IBDCs, other Infrastructures and input support for promotion & production
Our country is one of the chief exporters of honey in the universe. 3 lakh employees extract about a thousand Metric tonnes of honey from 30 lakh bee colonies in the nation. As there is a more important section of humans involved in the business, the Gov. of India has launched different missions like NBHM to control the challenges faced by the beekeepers.
Beekeeping and Honey Missions in India
Gov. has established the NBHM to control the crisis in the field and intensify the beekeeping industry in the country. The two chief missions that look after the beekeeping activities and offer the essential aids are:
- Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
- National Bee Board (NBB)
The objective of the Mission
These missions have a transparent vision of,
- Construct a wealthy land with a practical natural environment and economy that will support the beekeepers to be independent.
- Implement harmless apiculture technologies
- Grab the global market’s attention and compete with them in honey and beekeeping production.
- Sketch a long-term plan for the development and fostering of honey.
- Through cross-pollination to improve the cultivation of food products.
- Conduct programs and regulations to achieve the environmental, economic, and social objectives through Honey and Beekeeping enterprise.
- To calendar, the handy ways of do’s and don’ts in beekeeping.
- Encourage scientific beekeeping management practices by integrating awareness and training to increase the beekeeper’s skill and knowledge.
- Encourage humans to inform the production regions in every chunk of the state.
- Collaborate with the Gov. to execute the scientific methods by controlling the policies.
- Driving an efficient and robust organization through action, planning, and communication.
- Developing and studying protocols of best practices on all the characteristics of beekeeping.
- Strengthen the market for beekeeping products across International and National borders.
- To conduct and propose interactive honeybee exhibits at local fairs.
Khadi Village and Industry Committee (KVIC)
- The unorganized and the traditional methods of beekeeping were suspended with the setup of the KVIC. It builds up the beekeeping activity with the development of 25 lakh bee colonies. About 2.5 lakh of beekeepers collected 56,579 MT of honey across the country, in just 50 years.
- The Committee plays an essential role in the livelihood of rural regions with its four features rendering the boosting of beekeepers’ economic and social living standards.
- Khadi Village and Industry Committee acts collaboration as an income-generating tool for the beekeeping and beekeepers.
- Khadi Village and Industry Committee certain refiner medicine and food with the value of honey manufacture and other hive products.
- Khadi Village and Industry Committee helps cross-pollination that pays the manner for agriculture crops.
- Khadi Village and Industry Committee works exceedingly in constructing afforestation.
Schemes and Accomplishments under KVIC
- Khadi Village and Industry Committee has paved the way for the progress of the Medium, Micro, and Small Enterprises. It offers financial assistance to the beekeepers through some yojanas. They are:
- CE Loan on subsidized interest
- WC Loan on subsidized interest
- Short-term Stocking
- Prime Minister Employment Generation Scheme (PMEGP), Rural Employment Generation Scheme (REGP) were established to improve the scientific to the traditional beekeeping methods.
- A set of 12 beekeeping clusters were built up, by UNDP. It also goes with the beekeeping infrastructure for finer beekeeping in specified zones.
- The KRDP, NGOs, and SFURTI executed 11 beekeeping and 3 Beekeeping clusters, respectively.
National Bee Board (NBB)
The Ministry of Agriculture set up the NBB in the year 2000. Though the chief motto of the board is to enhance crop productivity and pollination through beekeeping, it assigns the following:
- Development and Research of honey processing units
- To sketch yojanas and set up training through research institutions
- Production of quality honey
The revolution of Phyto-Sanitary standards in terms of Bee-Product class
Migration of honeybee colonies
- Enable the safe and longer migration of honeybees
- Create awareness and organize training
- Training and Research on the disease-prone and its medication.
Funds under NBHM Mission
All the Medium, Micro, and Small Enterprises controlled by national bodies approve an amount of Rs.49.78 Crores each year through the Khadi Village and Industry Committee. The amount is assigned for the income to rural youth, both women and men to protect the honeybee habitat. The gov. encourages the regularity of beekeeping by assigning larger funds. All the HBHM missions aim not only on the upgrade of the beekeeping but also on the generation of the 11,000 employment each year.
Eligibility Criteria for NBHM Funding
- Under the honey mission, Checklists are examined for the selection of beneficiaries.
- The candidate must belong to SC/ST/NE-State.
- Candidates with a valid Aadhar Card and the age between 18 years and 55 years are only permitted to apply under the mission.
- Only one in a family will be allowed, who shall be offered a set of 10 bee boxes, 10 bee tool kits, and colonies.
- The beekeepers already maintain more than 10 bee colonies are not considered to be permitted.
- KVIC/KVIB/NABARD/KVK(s)/Agriculture – Horticulture Board’s trained applicants shall be favored.
- The beneficiaries who are availed/availing the profits from any other Gov Schemes shall not be considered qualified.
- Beekeepers who fail to multiply their bee colonies from 10 to 18 over a year must surrender all their kits, bee colonies, and hives.
Documents Needed
- A Valid Aadhar Card
- Candidates’ photo identity with Ration Card/Voter ID. A driving License will be considered in case of inaccessibility of the Aadhar card.
A Gov declaration document is needed for those who had to avail/availed the gov gains to revoke them as a beneficiary.
