Objective
Making quality medicines available at reasonable prices for all, particularly the disadvantaged and the poor, through exclusive store Jan Aushadhi Medical Store, so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare.
Key Features of Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)
- Ensure access to quality medicines.
- Enhance coverage of quality generic drugs to lessen out-of-pocket expenditure on drugs, thereby redefining the unit cost of treatment per capita.
- To generate awareness about generic drugs through education and publicity so that quality is not just synonymous with high price.
- A public program involving government, public sector undertakings, private sector, NGOs, societies, co-operative bodies and other institutions.
- To generate demand for generic drugs by improving access to better healthcare through lower treatment costs and easier availability, wherever required, across all therapeutic categories. That is, generating demand for generic drugs through medical practitioners and providing commonly used generic drugs covering all therapeutic groups.

Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Project (PMBJP)
Promoting greater awareness about cost-effective drugs and their prescriptions.
To make accessible unbranded quality generic medicines at resonable prices through public-private partnership.
Encourage doctors, especially in government hospitals, to prescribe generic drugs.
Enable substantial savings in health care, especially in the case of poor patients and those suffering from chronic diseases requiring long-term drug use.
Under this program, generic medicine will be given to treat deadly and major diseases, and these medications will also be on people’s budgets.
During the time of Yojana, the responsibility for giving generic medicines from time to time rests with Aushadhi.
Apart from giving medicines at lesser prices, the quality was also fully guaranteed to citizens and sellers.
The government hospital and doctors are also needed to prescribe these medicine on paper by informing them of the quality of generic medicine.
Help from the government under Yojana
- Under this Yojana, financial assistance of up to Rs 2 is given by the government.
- 15% of the incentive and 15,000 rupees will be provided every month in the affected zones of Naxal, the tribal areas, and the northeastern states.
- The government that opens the Jan Aushadhi store will get a 16% commission by the government and will be inspired according to the cell.

Online Application under PM Jan Aushadhi Yojana

- First, go through the official website of Jan Aushadhi Yojana.
- Now you have to select on Registration Form, this will open the registration page on your screen.
- Read the instructions provided as per your choice, then select the “Submit” button.
- Then enter your details on the next page and log in.
- After, the online registration form will open in which you will suppose to fill in all the details.
- This manner, you will be able to apply online very easily.
Who will benefit from Aushadhi Kendra scheme?
The greatest profit to this yojana will be the economically weaker patients as they will get friendly medicine from this yojana. Those who open the Jan Aushadhi store will also get commission and other gains from the government.
Will the application to open Jan Aushadhi Kendra be offline or online?
The applicants have both options. But we suggest that you submit your application online, as this process is very easy.
Is it required to own your own land to open a store?
No, this is not required, you do also rent a center. In such a case, you must show the rental paper.
you will get un-branded medicines at Janaushadhi stores based on generic names. So, let’s hunt for these two generic medicines on PMBJP portal.
- Go through the Janaushadhi portal.
- Select on ‘Products’ menu tab
- Let’s hunt for the generic name ‘Metformin Hydrochloride’. (You can discover generic name printed on Tablet strips or can ask your Doctor.)
- The branded tablets which my mother is using right now(Glycomet) is accessible at medical centres for Rs 19 per 10 tablets. The tablets with same generic name but un-branded ones, are accessible at kendras for MRP of Rs 5.15. That’s a difference of more than 70%.
- Let’s now check the MRP for ‘Telmisartan’.

About Jan Aushadhi Store (JAS)

- The usual working hours of Jan Aushadhi Store are 8 Am to 8 PM.
- All therapeutic medicines are made accessible from JAS.
- In addition to medicines and surgical items supplied by BPPI, JAS also sell allied medical products commonly sold in chemist shops so as to improve the viability of running the JAS.
- OTC (Over-the-counter) products can be purchased by any person without a prescription. A prescription from a registered medical practitioner is required for the purchase of scheduled drugs.
